VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Two days after more than 100 Virginia Beach public school employees filed a lawsuit against the superintendent, alleging he concealed double-digit health insurance premium hikes until after their contracts for the year had to be signed, the School Board announced it would hold a special meeting to discuss “health insurance premiums, employee healthcare costs and potential future steps.”

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27 at the school administration building at 2512 George Mason Dr.
Attorney Tim Anderson, who filed the lawsuit on behalf of the school division employees,said Friday on his Facebook page that “it is anticipated the Board will apply funding to health insurance premiums to substantially reduce the proposed 110% increase,” which he said “only happened because of the lawsuit and the pressure you applied. Without this fight, nothing would be changing.”
In a complaint filed Wednesday in Virginia Beach Circuit Court, 112 anonymous plaintiffs are asking for a jury to award them damages, and for a judge to issue an injunction to prevent the school division from implementing the increased rates they say will “irreversibly reduce” their wages and benefits…
