Viriginia Beach man arrested after fleeing Currituck traffic stop

On Aug. 24, a Currituck County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a motorcycle for excessive speed. The driver failed to yield to emergency lights and sirens, initiating a pursuit.

The driver wrecked, and fled on foot, but was apprehended after a brief foot chase. He was identified as Mr. Dustin Wheeler, 36, of Virginia Beach, VA.

Mr. Wheeler was taken into custody and charged with the following offenses:

  • Felony Charge: Flee to Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle (F)
  • Misdemeanor Charges: Speeding (M); Reckless Driving – Wanton Disregard (M); Displaying a Fictitious Registration Plate (M); Failure to Heed Emergency Lights or Siren (M); Injury to Personal Property; Improper Use of Traffic Lane; Lane Change Signal Violation; Failure to Carry Vehicle Registration Card; Driving the Wrong Way; No Motorcycle Endorsement; Failure to Register Motor Vehicle.

Mr. Wheeler was issued a $50,000 secured bond and is currently being held at the Currituck County Detention Center…
