NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY)– A man faces charges after a carjacking led to shots being fired at two Newport News police officers.
According to police, on August 24, officers were dispatched just after 9 p.m. in reference to a stolen vehicle that had been involved in a carjacking and robbery earlier in the day. The vehicle was later located in the area of Oyster Point Boulevard and Nettles Drive. Two ununiformed officers followed the suspect vehicle in an unmarked police car.
The suspect vehicle stopped in the 12900 block of Nettles Drive. Two occupants exited the car and began firing shots at the officers’ vehicle striking it and a nearby residence, before the suspects fled the area…
