Mother shares emotional journey from daughter’s leukemia diagnosis to recovery at CHKD ceremony

NORFOLK, Va. — The Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters is working to deepen its understanding of pediatric cancer, with the help of $100,000 grant from Hyundai Hope on Wheels.

On Wednesday, cancer specialists, Hyundai representatives, and cancer patient families honored that donation during a special handprint ceremony.

One of the speakers, Amanda Helvig, said her daughter was 5 years old when she was diagnosed with leukemia. Helvig said when she learned about her daughter’s illness, their world turned upside down…
