NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) will be inactivating on September 26, ending the command’s 52-year history training new soldiers. For the past 14 years, it has been located at Fort Eustis in Newport News.
According to a spokesperson with TRADOC, an inactivation ceremony will be held on that day to honor the command’s history of “training, educating, and building the U.S. Army” before the creation of the U.S. Army Transformation and Training Command, a new command to be composed of TRADOC and the Army Futures Command and headquartered in Austin, Texas.
The move comes as Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced his plans to reorganize the Department of Defense in May. At the time, General Brigadier Jennifer Walkawicz told 13News Now, “In my career, my 30 years serving, this is the most significant transformation effort that I have seen.”…
