Investigation: Norfolk woman awakens from ‘solar nightmare’

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Mara Willis paid tens of thousands of dollars to save herself some money, getting solar panels installed on her home in 2022 in an effort to fight rising power bills from Dominion Energy. But when the installer later went out of business, Willis was left in the dark about where to turn.Like many of our previous stories about solar installations, the installer promised the customer big savings on her power bill. Willis’s system worked at first, until it didn’t, and the meter kept running on her $32,000 loan.

“I can’t pay for something that’s not working,” Willis told 10 On Your Side during a recent interview at her Estabrook home.
