Appeals court upholds Suffolk’s use of speed cameras

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Suffolk’s use of speed cameras is legal, according to a recent appeals court ruling.

Suffolk speed camera case heard by appeals panel

The Virginia Court of Appeals heard arguments in the case back in June, and in its ruling written by Judge Frank K. Friedman Sept. 16, it agreed with the city of Suffolk that the use of the speed monitoring system is a governmental function.

Curtis Lytle had sued Suffolk in 2024 over issues with speed cameras the city uses after he was issued a $100 fine by a camera in a work zone July 22, 2023 and was sent the ticket by a third-party vendor…
