Norfolk man sentenced for fraudulent purchases with stolen credit card

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Norfolk man was sentenced Tuesday to 10 months in jail after unauthorized purchases to a stolen credit card belonging to a local contracting company.

Between Nov. 7-13, 2023, Daniel John O’Neil, 28, charged the credit card nearly a dozen times at the Home Depot on North Military Highway. The card had been issued to a company employee who had reported the card stolen following his termination. O’Neil had never worked for the company and did not have permission to use their card.

When the contracting company realized the suspicious credit card transactions, the company reported the issue to the Chesapeake Police Department. Police reviewed surveillance footage from Home Depot stores in Chesapeake, Virginia Beach and Norfolk and identified O’Neil and another individual as suspects…
