PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A power outage in the Churchland area affected more than 5,500 Dominion Energy customers in Portsmouth and Chesapeake on Wednesday, but most have since been restored.
The outage stretched from just east of Interstate 664 across the Elizabeth River to the Sycamore Road area off High Street.
Dominion spokeswoman Cherise Newsome said the outage was due to an equipment failure. She said 9,000 customers initially lost power, but automated technology helped the crew re-route the flow of electricity and restore power to about 4,000 customers within moments…
