PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — It’s a mini makeover, inside and out, for the homeless, as more than a dozen partners rolled out goods and services for the 2025 Portsmouth Homeless Assistance Day.
At the event being held just outside downtown Portsmouth, Thomas Houston, who claims High Street as his home, picked up some toiletries and sanitizers that were neatly packaged in a plastic sandwich bag, and he got a beard trim from a professional barber.
The assistance day is a post-pandemic product organized by the Help and Emergency Response Shelter and it’s part of November’s Homelessness Awareness Month. Joy Shaffer is the Program Director…
