NORFOLK, Va.(WAVY)– The Virginia Zoo announced Monday morning Bali, a 21-year old male siamang, passed away unexpectedly Oct. 31.
According to zoo officials, Bali underwent an emergency veterinary examination Oct. 30 after a rapid decline in his energy and activity levels. Officials say they are awaiting histopathology results from a necropsy performed to provide further insights into the underlying cause of his death.
Bali was born at Howletts Wild Animal Park in England in 2004 and had been with the Virginia Zoo since 2010. He had four offspring while at the Virginia Zoo.
Officials say he was a patient, protective, and energetic father who often engaged in playtime with his offspring. Team members say they will miss how Bali always appeared eager to participate in their training sessions…
