2-alarm fire damages Chesapeake apartment buildings

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A two-alarm fire Friday afternoon damaged a pair of apartment buildings on Edna Street in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake and has displaced 14 residents, according to a Chesapeake fire official. A man was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Firefighters are continuing their work to put out the fire at the Great Bridge Apartments as investigators begin to look into what sparked it.

Chesapeake firefighters arrived to the scene at 1:20 p.m. and reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the two-story apartment building.

First responders immediately began door-to-door evacuations while additional crews worked on the fire, which was brought under control at 2:46 p.m…
