VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – The Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach recently announced that a Lockhead PV-2 Harpoon aircraft, nicknamed the “Island Doll” has joined their collection.
The PV-2 is said to have a long history of US Navy missions across the Northern Pacific towards the end of World War II, including bombing runs against Japanese forces that kept their forces occupied.
Had the war not ended, the “Island Doll” would have likely been involved in these missions as well, as the airplane was waiting at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in the Northern Pacific for orders at the conclusion of the war…
