NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — The suspect involved in the Patrick Henry Mall shooting claims self-defense after firing multiple rounds into the victim Nov. 29, according to court documents.
Suspect identified after shooting inside Patrick Henry Mall Saturday
Video was obtained that showed the victim, 26-year-old Diamante Tre’veon Neal, entering the “New Square” store inside the mall when he was approached by the suspect, Gary Carlton Moore III. Moore was already in the store at the time, and the two could be seen engaging in a conversation, according to court documents.
A short time later, Moore could be seen tackling Neal and a struggle between the men ensues. Court documents explain Moore disarmed Neal and produced his own firearm from a concealed location on his body, where he proceeded to place the gun in his right hand and shot Neal multiple times.
“It was awful,” said witness Gabriella Combs. “It was truly awful, and it was coming at the end of an already very emotional week.”…
