NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — The mother of the victim in this shooting says the past few days have been hard, and it’s a pain she wishes on no one.
“Why is my son not here? I’m one of those mothers now because I don’t know why this happened,” said Courtney Brown, mother of Diamante Neal, who was shot and killed Saturday at Patrick Henry Mall. “My son went to the mall to go get a shirt made and this happened.”

That’s what Courtney Brown has to say about the killing of her son. She said he was a beloved youth football coach and mentor. When she heard about the shooting, she tried to reach her son.
