Norfolk Fire-Rescue crews knocked down a Sunday morning fire at Old Dominion University’s Welcome Center after smoke and flames were spotted coming from the building.
Firefighters were called to the center at Hampton Boulevard and 49th Street around 8:24 a.m. The first crew arrived minutes later and saw smoke coming from the building. They were also told the fire appeared to be coming from an electrical room.
Crews pulled a hose line through the front door to reach the flames while another team searched the building to ensure no one was inside. Firefighters on the roof reported flames venting near a skylight, and several hose lines were used to get to the main fire…
