Suffolk Fire & Rescue frees horse trapped in muddy swamp

SUFFOLK, Va. — Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews rescued a 33-year-old horse Monday afternoon after it became stuck in deep mud behind a property on the 7000 block of Crittenden Road.

According to Suffolk Fire & Rescue, Engine 9 arrived first and reported that the horse was trapped in a swampy area about 30 yards off a private lane.

A veterinarian with The Oaks Equine and Farm Service was already on site assessing the animal when firefighters arrived. Rescue crews evaluated the situation and developed a plan to safely free the horse…
