Suspects in carjacking robbed victims at gunpoint prior to police chase on I-64 E: Court docs

Editor’s Note: Chesapeake Police initially reported that the suspects in this case fired at Virginia Beach Police. Monday afternoon, they updated their news release to simply state “shots were fired.” A release from Virginia Beach Police around 3:30 p.m. Monday confirmed it was a VBPD officer who fired their weapon, not the suspects.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – Two Bertie County men were arrested Monday after a stolen vehicle pursuit that ended on I-64 E after a crash on the exit ramp to Exit 291B at I-464, according to Virginia Beach Police. 10 On Your Side obtained court documents stating two victims were robbed at gunpoint Sunday night.

Documents further explain the victims were approached by the suspects, Ronnie Jamijah Futrell, 21, and Dawan Jaquez Harris, 32, at their apartment located on 1516 Twin Oaks Lane on Dec. 7, around 11:23 p.m.

The suspects then demanded to give up all their belongings and shoved the victims to the ground with guns pointed to their head while demands were being made.

The victims handed over money, their wallets, cell phones, jewelry and the keys to their vehicle as demanded by the suspects. The suspects then proceeded to leave the scene…
