North Carolina man sentenced after 10 kilos of cocaine intercepted en route to Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A North Carolina man will spend the next decade in federal prison after investigators intercepted a package containing 10 kilograms of cocaine that was headed for Portsmouth.

According to federal prosecutors, 41-year-old Kareem Akeem McMurrin conspired with another person to ship a large quantity of cocaine from San Diego, California, to an address in Portsmouth. Court documents show law enforcement intercepted the parcel on February 5 and removed the cocaine before allowing the package to be delivered as planned.

When McMurrin retrieved the package, investigators moved in to arrest him. Prosecutors say he fled at a high rate of speed with his adolescent child in the vehicle, attempting to discard the parcel during the chase. McMurrin managed to get away that day but was located and arrested the following month on an outstanding warrant…
