Man sentenced in deadly 2024 shooting on Core Ave in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY)– A man was sentenced to 40 years in prison for shooting and killing a man in 2024.

Vandes Jackson, 57, shot and killed 44-year-old Bradley Kristoffer Kortbawi around midnight on July 6 outside of an apartment building on Core Avenue.

Kortbawi was standing outside the apartment building conversing with friends when Jackson approached him and accused him of saying a racial slur. Kortbawi assured Jackson that no one said the alleged slur and proceeded to turn away. Jackson then pulled out a gun and shot Kortbawi in the head, killing him.

In shock following the shooting, one of Kortbawi’s friends told Jackson that he had just shot her friend. Jackson responded “Then call the police,” before walking away…
