CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — A K-9 named Apollo died on Dec. 14 due to a medical emergency, according to the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office.
Apollo was born in North Carolina in 2021. With Deputy Zach Eanes, they completed Basic and Advanced Handler Schools in 2023. He was certified through the United States Police Canine Association. Apollo would later assist with narcotics searches and traffic stops that led to arrests and the recovery of evidence.
The bond between Apollo and Deputy Earned was evident in the field and off duty. When not working, Apollo enjoyed playing Kong and getting brushed.
