TowneBank notifies customers of potential data breach from vendor

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – TowneBank officials say there was a data breach involving one of its vendors.  The local financial institution notified its customers by letter about the situation.

It says Marquis Software Solutions is a third-party vendor.  According to that letter, TowneBank says Marquis Software detected suspicious activity back in August of this year. It notified Townebank of the problem in October that some member information may have been involved.

So far, TowneBank managers say they are not aware of any customers being victims of fraud or identity theft of their sensitive information.  That includes bank account information, pin numbers, addresses, e-mails, phone numbers and social security numbers.

TowneBank says customers who think they might be at risk can enroll in one of several free credit monitoring programs.  These programs and their contact information are included in a copy of that letter to customers, included in this story…
