Lawsuit filed by widow of deceased corrections officer aimed at VADOC policy changes

RICHMOND, Va. (WCYB) — A recent federal lawsuit alleges leaders within the Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) were aware of staffing shortages and failed to investigate a threat which ultimately led to the death of corrections officer Jeremy Lewis Hall.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of officer Hall’s widow, Dawn Hall as well as current corrections officer Anthony Kellam who is currently assigned to the Indian Creek Correctional Center in Chesapeake, Virginia.

The defendants of the civil action include:

  • Chad Dotson, Director of the Virginia Department of Corrections
  • David Robinson, Chief of Correction Operations with VADOC
  • Kevin McCoy, Warden of the River North Correctional Center
  • Kevin Allen, Captain at River North Correctional Center
  • Dara Watson, Warden of Indian Creek Correctional Center

The suit also includes twenty other not named “supervisory officials” at both River North and Indian Creek Correctional Centers…
