NORFOLK, Va. — The FBI says 2025 is on track to have the largest one-year drop in homicides ever recorded in the United States. City leaders in Hampton Roads announced they are feeling those impacts, as they report record low homicide rates.
In Norfolk, police reported 26 homicides in 2025. That is the lowest number in more than four decades.
“You have to go all the way back to 1985 to get that kind of number,” said Ramin Fatehi, Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney. “It is an absolutely unprecedented number, especially when you look at the ’90s. which sometimes had numbers closer to 100.”…
