NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Getting ahead of China, celebrating recent military strikes and rebranding the military ethos are what Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth focused on during his visit to Newport News Shipbuilding.
“It’s always inspiring to stand among patriots who quite literally are building our nation’s firepower,” Hegseth said.

He addressed a crowd of more than 300 shipbuilders and sailors, standing in front of the recently built USS Oklahoma. Hegseth spoke about bringing the military into what he calls a golden age.
“On the previous administration, when our ships got shot at, we just said, ‘I guess we have to deal with it,’ all the way back to Thomas Jefferson,” Hegseth said. “We said, ‘You’re not shooting at our ships. And if you do, you may not see tomorrow.’…
