Chesapeake car salesman receives prison term for $2M fraud scheme

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A used car salesman who engaged in a fraud conspiracy and victimized two dozen financial institutions into providing over $2 million has been sentenced to prison.

Adrian Knight, 41, of Virginia Beach, received a six-year sentence for conspiracy to commit mail, bank and wire fraud, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia said in a statement on Tuesday. He was the owner of Ace Auto Sales, LLC in Chesapeake.

From March 2019 to January 2023, Knight and co-conspirators listed Ace as the seller of automobiles in buyers’ agreements or buyers’ orders which was accompanied by fraudulent loan applications to various financial institutions for automobiles that were not in Ace’s inventory…
