Man arrested after stealing cargo van, evading traffic stop in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A man was arrested after stealing a cargo van and attempting to evade a traffic stop Thursday morning in Chesapeake, according to police.

Officers responded to the 1900 block of Military Highway South for a report of a stolen vehicle at approximately 11:50 a.m. They learned that a cargo van had been taken while the driver was inside a business making a delivery. Police said a witness observed an individual enter the vehicle and flee.

The vehicle was eventually located near Military Highway and the Virginia Beach city line. Officers initiated a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled and disregarded emergency lights, sirens and multiple traffic signals while traveling through Virginia Beach and Norfolk.

The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Qwadaijhus Potts, was taken into custody and charged with grand larceny of a motor vehicle. He is being held without bond…
