Jury finds man not guilty in officer shooting in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A jury found a man charged with the shooting of a police officer in Portsmouth last year not guilty on all charges.

Rakeem Christian was found not guilty on all five charges after a seven-day trial and two hours of jury deliberation. He had faced charges of aggravated attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, shooting in the commission of a felony, shooting with the intent to maim or kill, the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and felony child neglect.

Christian was not available to be interviewed. After he was found not guilty on all the charges, he was released from the Portsmouth City Jail Wednesday night…
