Hazardous weather leads to closures across Hampton Roads

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Based on the current forecast for the weekend, with Super Doppler 10 Meteorologists predicting a 100% chance of snow for the WAVY viewing area, some schools, churches, and organizations made an early decision to close – or cancel events and services.

Snow is expected to begin falling by early afternoon Saturday, depending on where you live. Strong winds all weekend could increase the chance of power outages. Tidal flooding is also in the forecast.

By Friday afternoon, some area schools announced they would be closed on Monday, Feb. 2.

Northeast North Carolina is expected to see heavy snow Saturday, some of which will likely still be on the ground come Monday. Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools made the decision around noon Friday to close all schools Monday because of the hazardous conditions.
