HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – Hampton resident Dannel Hill, 46, was arrested Wednesday night and charged with the first-degree murder of his 32-year-old nephew, Donte Parrish, who was found dead in the Dismal Swamp Canal in Chesapeake on Dec. 15, 2024.

Hill is also charged with the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The arrest follows a lengthy investigation after citizens discovered human remains along a trail in Chesapeake.
Reginald Parrish, the victim’s father and Hill’s brother, had expressed suspicion regarding Hill shortly after the discovery.
Parrish said he was informed of the condition in which his son was found. “Well, they told me that he was shot multiple times. He was found in a Dismal Swamp. He was in shorts. He had no sneakers on. His book bag was cut off,” Parrish said…
