Man shot by Suffolk Police in 2025 found not guilty of attempted murder, other charges, explains his side of story

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man who faced an attempted first-degree murder charge and was shot by officers last January — and who also represented himself at trial — is free after a jury recently found him not guilty of that and other charges in connection to a Suffolk shooting.

Anthony Bonds was released from jail Jan. 23, the same day a jury found him not guilty of charges in connection to a Jan. 28, 2025 shooting on South Lloyd Street in Suffolk.

Besides a charge of attempted murder, he also faced charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, abduction, shooting into an occupied dwelling, the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, strangulation, destruction of property over $1,000, aggravated malicious wounding, brandishing a firearm and reckless handling of a firearm.

Two charges — possession of a firearm by a felon and reckless handling of a firearm — were nolle prossed, or set aside, before the jury rendered its verdict. On the rest of the charges, Bonds was found not guilty…
