$6.38M project to improve I-564 connector highway begins

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A $6.38 million project aimed at improving safety along Interstate 564 and supporting military and port connectivity in Norfolk has begun, the Virginia Department of Transportation said.

VDOT’s Air Terminal Interchange Western Intersection project is expected to continue through at least spring 2027 and, once completed, is expected to support naval operations, facilities and emergency readiness by building a new intersection in the western part of the I-564 intermodal connector.

As part of the work, VDOT said the project will expand the existing one-directional ramp between the I-564 Intermodal Connector and Seabee Road to allow for two-way traffic and allow cars to enter the Intermodal Connector directly from Hampton Boulevard.
