NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The man charged with killing his wife in Norfolk has fled the United States and was last known to be in Hong Kong, according to a federal affidavit.
David Varela, 38, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection to the death of his wife, Lina Maria Guerra Echavarria, and police have been looking for him, confirming that he is not in custody. Norfolk Police referred to her as Lina M. Guerra, while the FBI affidavit notes her name as Lisa Maria Guerra Echavarria.

Norfolk Police executed a search warrant at Guerra Echavarria’s residence after her brother had reported her missing Feb. 2, this after he had not been in contact with her for more than two weeks and detectives had not been able to get in touch with Varela or Guerra Echavarria, according to the affidavit.
