NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Three people have been displaced, and two people have been hospitalized, after a house fire on Hull Street in Newport News Sunday morning, according to the Newport News Fire Department.
On Feb. 22 at around 9:53 a.m., the department responded to a house fire in the 100 block of Hull Street. When crews arrived, they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of the house. It was also initially reported that an individual was trapped inside the house. Firefighters immediately initiated an aggressive interior fire attack while searching the house. Other crews performed vertical ventilation to improve conditions inside the house.
Two residents evacuated the house before firefighters arrived to the scene. After being treated at the scene, both residents were transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center for further evaluation. Their conditions are currently unknown.
Crews provided a cat with oxygen and shelter after rescuing it from the house. The cat is being monitored at the scene, and will be in the care of Newport News Animal Control until it can be reunited with its owners.
The fire was brought under control without more injuries. The house was condemned and placarded after being significantly damaged due to the fire. Three residents have been displaced and are being assisted by family members…
