Norovirus cases on the rise, health officials say

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Health officials in Chesapeake say norovirus cases are increasing, reflecting a broader rise in stomach illness activity across Virginia.

The Virginia Department of Health saw an uptick in cases over the past week, with the virus spreading in public spaces such as schools, daycares, restaurants, and airports.

According to VDH data, stomach illness outbreaks are trending above normal levels across the Eastern region of Virginia. Norovirus, often referred to as the “stomach flu,” is a highly contagious virus that causes vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, and sometimes fever.
