Virginia Beach Police told 10 On Your Side it is the first in the Commonwealth to have the IBIS ClearCase machine. IBIS stands for Integrated Ballistic Identification System, and forensic ballistics look at evidence left by shells to identify firearms used in crimes. Gun casings have a ballistic fingerprint that is left behind when someone fires a gun. This system identifies the microscopic marks on the cartridges made from the gun.
