VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A 41-year-old man was sentenced to life plus five years in the killing of a woman, who was stabbed over 90 times and discovered in a toolbox.

On Oct. 8, 2020, Virginia Beach police responded to a residence on Green Cedar Lane, where a caller advised he had taken a shower and was unable to locate his wife, Cynthia Capps. The husband claimed he searched their home and found a single drop of blood on their kitchen floor, which led to him calling the police.
When officers arrived, they searched the residence and any additional signs of foul play. Evidence determined Capps’ husband had rented a room in their home to Hagen Lawrence Roberts, which was locked. They breached the door open and found Roberts lying on a bed. Evidence showed he appeared to be wet from taking a shower and had a cut on his right hand that was wrapped in a black bandana.
Police searched the property and found blood stains in the backyard. They subsequently found Capps dead in a toolbox with trauma to her head and face…
