Main gate at Fort Eustis reopens after vehicle triggers explosive detection alert

FORT EUSTIS, Va. (WAVY)– The main gate at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Newport News has reopened Thursday morning, following a temporary closure due to a vehicle triggering an explosive detection alert.

According to officials, at 4:30 a.m., a vehicle entering the Fort Eustis main gate triggered an alert from explosive detection equipment indicating traces of explosive materials. Officials immediately established safety protocols and fully inspected the vehicle.
