NNPD: Second suspect charged in fatal Jefferson Avenue shooting

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A second man was charged in connection with a Feb. 17 shooting on Jefferson Avenue that killed one man and seriously injured another, according to the Newport News Police Department.

Officers responded to the 10600 block of Jefferson Avenue in reference to a shooting at approximately 5:05 p.m. on Feb. 17. When officers arrived, they discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds. They were both taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

One victim, identified as 19-year-old Taurion Reed, succumbed to his injuries later in the evening.

On March 10, officers served warrants to 23-year-old Laron Jamont Williams Jr. in connection with the shooting. He was arrested at around 7:55 a.m. by Smithfield police on unrelated charges…
