Lights, Camera, Internship: My time at WAVY-TV 10 (3)

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Time truly flies when you’re having fun! More shadowing and hands-on experience as I continue to perfect my craft. Let’s discuss what I have been up to.

I was able to shadow Angela Bohan on the airport delays due to blizzard warnings across the east coast. This experience was very fulfilling as I was able to conduct interviews with photographer Nick Harrison. The most tasking part was trying to find people to talk with, as you never know who will want to be on camera. However, the two interviews that I was able to get were actually used for on air television. This was a very rewarding opportunity, and I am very grateful to Angela who pushed me to go after the interviews.

Also, during the recent weeks, I was able to shadow Reginia Mobley on a follow up story about a “peeping tom” in the area. A mother had reported about her daughter seeing a man with a flashlight looking through the window at four in the morning. Our task was to go door knocking and speak to the community about what they possibly knew and their feelings. This was kind of a similar experience to getting interviews at the airport; not everyone will want to. I definitely have learned tips from Regina and Angela on how to have persistence to finish a story. From the interviews and b-roll I was able to package this story. I will say that my editing has improved tremendously and I am more comfortable with the platform. I give all the credit to WAVY for my growth with Adobe. This is simply not something I would have been able to do without this experience…
