ODU Board of Visitors, Faculty Senate clash following campus tragedy

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Tensions are high on the Old Dominion University campus following the March 12 shooting in an ROTC classroom in Constant Hall that killed professor, Lieutenant Colonel Brandon Shah, and injured two students.

In the email sent to students and staff from the Board of Visitors on Thursday, Rector R. Murry Pitts responded to concerns that were raised by the Faculty Senate in the wake of the tragedy.

In the original email sent by the Faculty Senate to the Board of Visitors on Wednesday, they state that the March 12 shooting is a part of a pattern of mismanagement and disregard of faculty concerns.

Part of a follow up email from the Faculty Senate on Wednesday read, “The tragedy in Constant Hall was not an isolated incident; it was a preventable outcome of a leadership style that consistently dismisses shared governance and expert faculty input.”…
