Former bookkeeper faces sentencing for embezzling $19,000 in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Wendy Ann Latham, 62, pleaded guilty to three counts of felony embezzlement for stealing more than $19,000 from a Norfolk doctor’s office where she worked as a bookkeeper. The guilty plea was entered on March 18, 2026 in Norfolk Circuit Court.

According to a news release from the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, the embezzlement took place between Oct. 17, 2017 and March 27, 2019, while Latham served as the bookkeeper and human resource manager for the practice. Her duties included managing staff paychecks and ensuring accurate deductions for benefits such as health insurance.

While employed at the medical practice, Latham credited herself for lunch hours she was not entitled to and paid herself for unearned overtime and vacation wages. She also failed to deduct the required amounts from her paycheck for health and dental insurance. The total amount embezzled was $19,725.47…
