NORFOLK, Va. — Volunteers gathered at Lafayette Park on Friday morning, rolling up their sleeves for the start of the “Greatest American Cleanup,” a nationwide effort aimed at making communities cleaner and greener.
However, beyond the bags of trash being filled, organizers say the event is also drawing attention to a growing issue in Norfolk: the increasing amount of litter and its impact on the environment.
A nationwide effort with local impact
The cleanup initiative runs from March through the end of May and is part of a broader push tied to America’s upcoming 250th birthday celebration.
