VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A sweet staple of the Virginia Beach community has served its final batch of pastries. Plaza Bakery, an establishment that has been operating for more than six decades, officially closed its doors.
The bakery originally opened in the 1960s under the ownership of the Freeman family. In 2020, amid the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Cristal Spellman bought the business and moved it to a new location off Virginia Beach Boulevard.
