IW adopts updated comprehensive plan

Isle of Wight County supervisors voted unanimously on March 19 to adopt a five-year update of the county’s 2020 “Envisioning the Isle” comprehensive plan.

Supervisor Renee Rountree made the motion to adopt the 163-page document with the condition that references to three unfunded projects – an equestrian trail, “green infrastructure” program and agricultural easement program – be stricken. Rountree said the county has “no intention” of moving forward with funding those proposals at present.

An equestrian trail had once been among proposals for the 2,500-acre Blackwater Park, located 10 miles southwest of Smithfield along the Blackwater River.
