CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office is urging residents to be aware of new scams in the area that use the sheriff’s office.
“The trends we’re seeing now are, you’ll hear them call and they’ll say they’re a captain from this agency, so they always try and put emphasis on a rank or something of importance to try and get the callers’ attention, and get your attention,” said Chesapeake Sheriff Wallace Chadwick.
This is part of the call: “Hi, this is the Chesapeake County Sheriff’s Office. You have missed jury duty. There is a warrant for your arrest. You need to pay today or turn yourself in.”…
