NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A fire damaged a building on Jefferson Avenue Friday night, the Newport News Fire Department said.

When crews arrived to the 5000 block of Jefferson Avenue, they assessed five people to ensure their safety, and at the same time, firefighters fought the fire and searched the building.
The five people were evaluated and did not need to go to the hospital, the fire department said…
