Coastal flood advisory issued for Norfolk, Chesapeake and surrounding areas

NORFOLK, Va. — The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood advisory for parts of Hampton Roads from Sunday afternoon through Monday morning, warning of minor flooding along shorelines and tidal waterways.

The alert includes Chesapeake, Suffolk, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Hampton, Poquoson, and Isle of Wight. Forecasters say up to one foot of water above ground level is possible in low-lying areas, especially near the waterfront.

Water levels are expected to rise around high tide Sunday evening, when impacts could be most noticeable. While widespread damage is not expected, some roads, parking lots, parks, and yards near the water may see shallow flooding.
