SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Remember that show “Are you smarter than a fifth-grader?” You might be hard-pressed when you compare yourself to some sharp students at Booker T. Washington Elementary. They’re part of a pilot program that places them in roles requiring cool heads and quick decisions.
“Operation Stormwatch” was a scenario of a mock disaster where students spent the entire school year learning what to do in the aftermath of a major storm that disrupts life for people in Hampton Roads.
It culminated Monday with a mock press conference where the student leaders of five different teams – city leaders, weather, public safety, air & aid and military & maritime – took questions and provided information on how they were handling the disaster…
