Drill in Portsmouth tested emergency preparedness

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – The Portsmouth Health District, in collaboration with the Portsmouth Health Department, Norfolk Health Department, Portsmouth Police Department, Portsmouth Fire Department and Portsmouth Emergency Management, conducted a Point of Dispensing (POD) exercise on Thursday, April 30. This drill simulated a public health response to a novel influenza A virus, as part of the Virginia Department of Health’s (VDH) Requisite Cardinal biological event exercise.

According to a release from VDH, the Requisite Cardinal exercise aimed to validate and evaluate various aspects of a public health response to a biological incident. The Virginia Department of Health coordinated this drill as part of its statewide emergency preparedness program.
